Introduction of Museum Garden
Occupying 200 Mu (about 15.33ha) of land and standing in the Yangling State Demonstration Zone of
Agricultural Hi-tech Industries, the Museum Garden has a total building area of more than 16000 square meters and consists of five museums oriented for entomology, zoology, soils and plants and agricultural history of China,a butterfly garden,and nuserying beds for plant germplasm,so that it is now the largest theme museum group ever established in China. It collects more than 1.2 million specimens of insects, more than 8000 specimens of animals,0.55 milion specimens of plants, more than 2000 specimens of soils, more than 2000 agricultural history related relics and farming tools, more than 5000 ancient thread-bound books, and more than 600 species of trees, which is a collection that ranks first among all the universities and colleges of China. Using its specimens, material objects, relics, models and outdoor plants as well as various modern demonstration means, the museum garden shows wonderful and mysterious worlds of animals, insects,plants and soils, and the history of agricultural sciences and technology so that it become a grand showcase of knowledge in agricultural sciences and technology that integrates knowledgeability, enjoyments and ornamental values into one and a tourism attraction for agricultural sciences and technologies that integrates specimen demonstration, landscaping appreciation, sci-tech promotion and leisure tourism into one. Early or later the museum garden has won the honors of serving as one of the National Science Education Bases of China, one of Chinese Youth Sciences and Technology innovation Bases and one of the Shaanxi Youth and Teenage Education Bases , and of being among the Secure and demonstrative Tourism Spots of Shaanxi.
Entomological Museum
Beginning its establishment as the first state owned museum for insects in 1987, the Entomological Museum is the largest museum for insects of the world with its total building area amounting to 11,500 square meters and consists of four parts oriented for exhibition, collection, research, and butterfly garden. It collects more than 1.2 million specimens of insects and its exhibition involves five topics, life of insects, varieties of insects, insects & human beings, cultures on insects, and Entomologist and Professor Zhou IO' S life and accomplishments.
Zoological Museum
Having been opened since the completion of its construction in October, 2006, the Zoological Museum has a total building area of4300 square meters and collects nearly ten thousand extremely precious specimens of animals and ancient animal fossils.It has eight exhibition halls for the Origin of life & Animal evolution,precious and rare animals,structures and their functions of animals,animal raising,illnesses & human health,animal productions & eco-environments, biotechnologies, and pets& ornamental animals.
Soil Museum
Put into operation upon the completion of its construction October,2006,The Soil Museum has an exhibition area of 800 square meters and treasures up more than 240 soil profiles collected from all over China, which is the largest collection of its kind in China, and more than 2000 specimens of minerals, rocks and soils. It has four exhibition halls for minerals, rocks and soil parental materials, classification and distribution of soils in China, soil profiles in China and the world, and soils& agricultural environments, and one bar for ceramics.
Botanical Museum
With its construction launched in 1936, the Botanical Museum has a total building area of 3200 square meters and treasures up more than 0.55 million specimens of plants and more than 2000 specimens of timbers. It has five exhibition halls and greenhouses for demonstrating the mysteries of Plants, plants & environments,plant diversities, Plants & Human beings,and timbers.
Memorial Museum for Mr.Yu Youren’s Contribution to Modern Education
The Museum introduces Mr. Yu Youren's Contributions
to the development of Modern Education in China and extols his
idea of ‘saving China by education’ and great contributions to
striving for the rejuvenation of the chinse nation.
Chinese Agricultural History Museum
Having been opened since the completion of its construction in October, 2006, the Chinese Agricultural History Museum has a total building area of 4600 square meters and treasures up more than 50000 ancient thread bound books and more than 2000 agricultural history related relics and traditional farming tools. The Museum has six halls for primitive farming, agricultures in the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, agricultures in the Qin, Han, Sui and Tang Dynasties,Agriculture in the Song and Yuan dynasties, and agriculture in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and premodern agriculture of China,which are arranged in the sequence of time and fully and systematically present fundamental contexts and great achievements in agricultural developments of China.
Butterfly Garden
Founded in 2005,the Butterfly Garden is the largest landscaping butterfly garden of its kind in China,which covers more than 4000 square meters. It plants more than 130 host and nectariferous plants collected for butterflies from nine provinces including Hainan, Yunnan and Shaanxi, and exhibits butterflies by regularly setting free more than 30 species of butterflies for tourists from April to October every year.
Germplasm Nurserying Beds
The Museum Garden has Germplasm Nurserying Beds for more than 600 tree species belonging to 120 families, hence serving as one important conservation base for tree germplasm as well as one important conservation, introduetion and domestication base for plant diversities in northwest China.
In addition, the Museum Garden has outdoor nuserying beds for plant germplasms specified for Chinese medicinal herbs, cereal crops, peonies, grapes, ornamental herbaceous plants, and perennial plants.
